What is foiling?

Foiling is using a hydrofoil to fly over the water. Foils have been around since 20 years, when a crew of big wave surfers including Pete Cabrinha and Laird Hamilton used them to ride massive waves while being tight to their surfboards with snowboard boots. After that, foiling disappeared for a while but came back really strong. Foiling has grown radically over the past few years and the evolution has been incredible. In all different sports, the hydrofoils has taken a big place and it continues to keep growing.

Is it hard to learn how to foil?

Learning how to foil is not easy, but with the right equipment and coaching, everyone can do it. Before learning to foil it is important to have good level in kitesurfing or windsurfing. Wingfoiling is unique because it is one of the sports where you can learn how to foil really easily, but E-Foiling is the easiest way to learn how to foil.

Why is foiling fun?

Foiling is incredibly fun because you are able to spend a lot more time on the water. The low end with a foil is incredible because you have no friction. Next to that, the choppy water doesn’t affect your ride and gusty wind is way less of a problem too. With a foil you can also surf really small waves or ride the wind swell.

Is foiling dangerous?

When you learn how to foil with the right gear and coaching, it isn’t dangerous. There is always a certain risk, which can be kept really small if you are learning it the correct way. It is really important to wear protective gear like a helmet, impact vest and a wetsuit.

What is the difference between the foils?

There can be a big difference between the different foils for the different sports. For windsurf foiling and wingfoiling the foils are a lot bigger than for kitefoiling. The size of the foil also depends on your weight and level. Please contact us for personal advice on finding the right foil.
